CRYSTAL METH: THE POISON IN OUR MIDST
Canadians can argue about the relative merits of decriminalizing marijuana
until the cows come home.
But when it comes to the trade in dangerous drugs like methamphetamine
there should be no discussion - shut it down as hard and as fast as possible.
As our front page story notes, local police are very concerned about
methamphetamine use in Revelstoke and we urge everyone in the city to
support their efforts to shut it down completely.
This is nothing like grass.
Crystal meth, as it is commonly called, is an insidious drug that appears
to give you more energy and a heightened libido but in the end it wears out
its users, kills their sex drives, ravages their bodies and deforms their
spirits and personalities.
We applaud our Mounties for their vigilance and their efforts to destroy
the crystal meth trade in Revelstoke and we hope the courts will likewise
take a hard stance when someone is inevitably brought to trial on charges
of trafficking in this poison.
In our view, tough sentences should always be handed down to people who
traffic in dangerous drugs. We hope the courts will agree
