CANNABIS DEBATE A BLAST FROM PAST
Re: It's time for Canada to legalize cannabis
Wayne G. Cook asserts that cannabis is widespread. Maybe it's
widespread among people he associates with, but it's not widespread
among the good and responsible citizens of Toronto.
How can Cook think he can get away with the comment that smoking
cannabis "will have benefits all around." He's wrong. Just ask local
police and hospital officials.
Currently, as in the past, smoking pot has led many people to pursue
far more dangerous drugs. In many cases, pot use has led people to
commit crimes in order to get their cannabis fix. Just ask the elderly
lady down the street who was attacked by someone high on cannabis.
These are just a few reasons why cannabis shouldn't be legalized. To
ignore these facts is society's (and Cook's) loss.
In rare cases, marijuana has helped some people with medical ailments.
But these individuals are looking for a way to alleviate their
suffering and pain, not for a way to get high.
The most absurd suggestion by Cook is that people who support
legalization of cannabis have morals while those who oppose it do not
- -- and they lack pragmatism.
Tell me, who is imposing their beliefs on whom? Cook needs to get over
it. We don't live in the 1960s and legalizing pot is a dead issue.
