WHAT'S BEING FORFEITED

Toronto - Your editorial is right to say I'm "proud" and "gung-ho"
about seizing millions of dollars worth of property used for unlawful
purposes.

As for this being a "blow to Canadians' civil liberties," I say: What
civil liberty are your referring to? No one's liberty is impacted by
the McGuinty government's use of a law dealing only with property and
its unlawful use. That's why the Ontario Court of Appeal upheld the
law as entirely constitutional.

As for "property rights," your editorialists must know that there are
none under our Constitution. Property has long been dealt with in the
civil courts using the civil standard.

There is no right to use property unlawfully, and our civil seizures
have aided victims and citizens to live in neighourhoods where people
can only use their property lawfully.

Am I gung-ho about that?

Absolutely.

Attorney-General Of Ontario
