DRASTIC MEASURES ARE TYPICAL PROHIBITIONIST THINKING
To the editor;
In response to Ed Bryant's letter (Feb. 28, 2005 issue), the hallmark of
people who support prohibition is that they really don't have a clue what
they are talking about. Contrary to his assertion, Lebanon has been a major
producer of illegal drugs for decades.
A quick search at http://www.mapinc.org will produce numerous newspaper
articles about the problem in Lebanon, including one report from last year
of 7.5 million square meters of cannabis being destroyed.
Not that it makes much sense to kill a few million people to solve a
problem that typically kills fewer than 10,000 people per year in North
America, anyway.
But that is typical of prohibitionist thinking.
