COMMENT SIMPLY NOT TRUE
Commenting on Steve Connell's March 9 letter (Those who want pot, do
pot), you wrote: "Potential users do abstain because they're afraid or
unwilling to break the law, and in some cases because they can't find
any." This simply isn't true. Indeed, the most recent sociological
evidence concludes, essentially, that public policy is an irrelevance
in relation to drug consumption. Sure, you may be able to find a few
people who might use cannabis if it were legal that don't today (the
exception that proves the rule), but by and large anyone who wants to
smoke marijuana will do so whether it is legal or not.
