COMMUNITY MUST SHOW SOLIDARITY FOR OUR POLICE OFFICERS

Editor, The Record:

I was encouraged to read how our RCMP and municipality are working together
to deter drug producers from setting up shop here in Mission (RCMP, council
to deter drug producers in municipality, March 3 edition).

However, my encouragement turned to absolute dismay as I read on page three
of the same edition how some judge saw fit to deny evidence found during a
raid in Mission and acquitted the suspects because he felt the RCMP should
have stood there and waited patiently for these people to answer the door.

There are four dead RCMP officers in Alberta due to all the crap these
officers are forced to comply with when dealing with low life scumbags.

The mother of one of the fallen officers stated:

"It is time to take our liberal-minded attitudes to task," she added,
challenging the prime minister to "give the power back to the police."
Bravo! Well said. The time is long overdue and it is time for some serious
change.

I appreciate Randy Hawes and others for their efforts in bringing the
serious drug problems in our community to the public's attention.

Maybe if we are united in our desire to remove this scurge from our
community, start to show solidarity and support for the RCMP, and begin to
take affirmative action as a community, we may be able to initiate some
positive change.

But this is not something that is just simply going to go away or that is
somebody else's problem.

As members of this community, I believe the ball is in our court.
