POOR PARENTING

Re: "Bill forcing drug treatment would be a first in Canada," March 22. So
this is what it has come to. Our parenting in our culture has become so
poor that we need a law to force our children into treatment. When are we
going to admit that the world has changed and we have seriously screwed up
things when discouraging teen drug use? Kids know way too much these days
for us to be morally pandering to them anymore. The Netherlands has more
impressive teen use rates than us, and I think Canada is a mature enough
country to regulate the drug industry and at least try to keep it out of
the hands of kids.
