COP DRAGGED BY DRIVER AFTER ROUTINE STOP
Ponoka police officer suffers minor injuries
A routine speeding stop resulted in multiple charges after a man
dragged a Ponoka police officer alongside his car last night. The
man's actions caused only minor injuries to the officer, who pulled
the vehicle over for speeding around 11 p.m. last night.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up marijuana, after which
the two got into a struggle, police said.
The 24-year-old driver, from Kelowna, drove off while dragging the
officer a short distance.
Police later tracked the driver down south of Ponoka, which is 104 km
south of Edmonton.
The police officer has since been released from hospital, RCMP
said.
A 24-year-old Kelowna man has been charged with flight from police,
dangerous driving, resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer,
assault with a weapon, and possession of marijuana.
