STOP GATEWAY ACTIVITIES
RE: M. Talbot's March 27 letter on forced drug treatment. Drug
addiction is a very tough subject. Talbot, like other people, uses the
phrase "gateway drugs" in referring to alcohol and marijuana. These
substances are not gateway drugs. Maybe people should stop all the
"gateway activities," such as school dances, skateboarding, school
groups, sleepovers, and kids just hanging out with each other. While
forced drug treatment may be helpful in some extreme situations, I
believe that the desire and the ability to alter the mind via drugs or
alcohol, and maybe even high-adrenaline sports or even books, will
never go away.
