A Minnesota legislative committee last week approved limited use of
marijuana for medical purposes, the first time the issue has passed a
committee.

The Senate Health and Family Security Committee passed the proposal on
a voice vote. The bill would protect medical marijuana patients from
arrest when a doctor recommends using marijuana to relieve pain.

A similar bill has been introduced in the House, where it faces
stronger opposition. The bill has received little notice this year,
unlike when Jesse Ventura was governor and he frequently reminded
people of his support for the bill.
