DELAY, DISRESPECT IN MARIJUANA ITEM

I am discouraged after the Modesto City Council meeting (April5). What a
sham. I made the mistake of showing up at the beginning of the meeting for
the discussion about extending the cannabis dispensary moratorium. Not only
was this most-popular issue scheduled at the end of the agenda, forcing
dozens of people with uncomfortable physical conditions to sit through
hours of mundane debate, but after that wait, opponents of the moratorium
were treated with the utmost disrespect by city officials when they tried
to say what they'd come to say.

It didn't matter anyway, since the council made it clear that they had no
intention of actually hearing the voice of the people, and had already made
their decision, evidenced by their repeated attempts to cut off the
discussion before everyone had their fair turn to speak.
