NO GOOD USE FOR BAD DRUGS
Thank you for the good article on crystal meth. However, I think it's time
for the writers of our day to take a stand against inappropriate use of the
English language.
The word "misuse" would imply that there is a use for problem drugs in our
society.
I would like the person who coined the word to step forward and define the
appropriate "use" of crystal meth, crack cocaine and heroin.
Heroin did at one time have a medical use. However, it has been replaced by
safer and more effective pain-relievers for severe pain.
I understand that the word "abuse" leads to discrimination against drug
users. But again, the word "abuse" also implies that there is a use for
these substances.
Any "use" of the above substances is a problem. They are highly addicting
and harmful to health and sanity. Any addict who has been through treatment
and sobered up will agree that "using" is the problem.
Let's not tell our kids that "use" is OK with highly addictive substances.
Kids can detect bull a mile off. Time to be straight!
