ENOUGH HYPERBOLE ABOUT MARIJUANA,

AND DON'T TELL US HOW TO SPEND PFD

It is interesting that the article on medical marijuana appeared in the
Daily News ("Suspect weed may enter medical market," March 29) just as Gov.
Frank Murkowski was grandstanding about the evils of marijuana. Murkowski
is simply one more politician pandering to special interests. Why? Because
marijuana cannot be patented and sold for outrageous (taxpayer subsidized)
profits as synthetic mixed-in-a-test-tube marijuana will be.

The recent maneuvering by our government in favor of the pharmaceutical
companies in disallowing the importation of prescription drugs from Canada
comes at a cost to Americans while raising the question: Just what is in
whose pocket? If you were an ill person, suffering from multiple sclerosis,
AIDS, cancer and the like, which would you prefer: a natural drug or a
manufactured one?

Furthermore, on the propensity of this Legislature to legislate us:
Whatever I choose to do with my Permanent Fund check is no one's business.
Whether I buy college credits or blow it on a trip to Hawaii should not
concern anyone. While screaming about budget shortfalls they want to send
out four checks a year instead of one? Two things come to mind: Place the
Legislature in our seafood processing plant in Anchorage and allow them to
meet only once every two years.
