'EVEN 10-YEAR-OLDS ARE NOT SAFE FROM CRYSTAL METH'
I am a mother of a 24-year-old crystal meth addict. He got his first taste
of the drug for free on Mother's Day last year from a female friend.
By December, my son had lost everything. He lost his 1999 Dodge Ram 4X4. He
was evicted from his home, lost two of his three dogs and then lost his job
because he was caught sleeping at night on the job site.
He has been staying with me since December. He has been clean from using
crystal meth for 12 weeks now. He has no energy to get himself up to walk
the dog, let alone shower, look for a job or ask for help.
I am at a loss as to what I can do for him. He doesn't think the drug has
had any effect on him.
As soon as I knew what drug I was dealing with, I talked to my son every
day, no matter what kind of mood he was in.
He tried very hard to push away all the people in his life who cared about
him. My son doesn't think this drug is all that bad. I am at my wit's end
to know how to help him further.
As parents, we must educate ourselves about the drugs our kids are using.
Even 10-year-olds are not safe from crystal meth. It is too available.
It makes me mad that you can buy crack/meth pipes at shops throughout the
region.
These shop owners who don't care about our children don't deserve any of us
as customers.
We need to make them accountable for their part in the ever-increasing use
of drugs by our young!
