DARE GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORT
Chilliwack's DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program has recently
received some important community backing.
The Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board has donated $3,500. Also,
local Chilliwack artist, Maxwell Newhouse, has donated a painting valued at
$3,000 to be auctioned at the DARE gala in Vancouver on May 27.
"The DARE Program is a 10-week course given to all District 33 and private
school Grade 5 students," says local program coordinator Const. Donna
Collins. "This year we are putting 1,700 Grade 5 students through the
program at a cost of about $25 per student."
The May gala is being held at the Mariott Hotel. Tickets are $150 each and
available through Const. Collins at 604-702-4058.
"Groups and businesses can buy a table of eight places," Const. Collins
says. "And, at each table bought as a block, there will be an RCMP member
in red serge and a celebrity."
She notes that all money raised by Chilliwack (such as that to be raised
May 27 by the auction of Mr. Newhouse' painting) stays in Chilliwack.
DARE is currently in its sixth year of operation in Chilliwack. It is
totally community funded.
