POT RALLY LEADS TO CHARGES
An RCMP crackdown at a marijuana rally at City Hall on Wednesday led to a
charge of assaulting a police officer as well as 14 drug possession charges.
Police arrested 14 adults and a youth at the annual event that drew 400
people downtown where some openly smoked marijuana. Each year, people
gather at 4:20 p.m. on April 20 to mark International Pot Day.
About 20 police officers descended on the park and began making arrests not
long after the gathering began.
Other charges laid included resisting arrest and breach of probation. Also,
four warrants were executed.
Several of those arrested were taken into custody for further
investigation. The names have not been released.
