NEIGHBOURS ONE DAY, SUSPECTS THE NEXT

Etta Ingrey lives on Edmonton Street, where several of her relatives also live.

But next to her, the quiet young couple that used to bring her food
whenever they barbecued were taken away in handcuffs one day when police
seized more than 100 pot plants from the home.

"He said he worked in Niagara Falls and would bring us wine," Ingrey said,
adding the couple also had a small child. "They were so nice to us."

She didn't think it was strange that the family always backed their vehicle
into their garage or that their blinds were always drawn.

"We must have been blind because you'd never believe it," she said.

Tony Dukic, who moved into the house not long after, said it didn't bother
him the home he now lives in was once used to grow illegal drugs.

There were a couple of water marks on the floor of two bedrooms, but no
mould or mildew, he said.

"It might have been a different story if they ran it for a year or two," he
said, guessing the couple had only been growing the drugs for about three
months.

And on Speight Crescent -- a street near an elementary school -- neighbours
were shocked when the home of a young couple who had lived there for three
years was raided.

"They're the last people on the street you'd expect," said neighbour Rob Mote.

Mote said the people -- who still live there -- are good neighbours.

A couple in their early 30s, they never had loud parties. There were no
typical signs police have warned are common with a home grow operation --
late night visitors, cars coming and going often, homeowners entering
through their garage.

It could be any street in the city.

"They are the last people on the face of the Earth you'd expect," Mote
said. "If they came up and got out of their car, you'd be like, 'Them?' "
