HENRY TO SIGN ANTI-METH LAW

A measure calling for an online database linking pharmacies will be signed
by the governor Monday, strengthening Oklahoma's nationally acclaimed
anti-methamphetamine law.

State law enforcement officials and legislators will join Henry when he
signs House Bill 1507 into law at 2 p.m. in the Blue Room at the state Capitol.

The bill establishes a statewide database to help ensure customers adhere
to purchase limits on pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the making of meth.

"We're already leading the nation when it comes to fighting the war on
methamphetamine," Henry said. "This legislation will make an already tough
law even tougher."

Last year Henry helped push through a law restricting sales of
pseudoephedrine tablets. Certain decongestants that contain pseudoephedrine
must be placed behind drug store counters, and buyers must show
identification. The statute has been credited with a drop in
methamphetamine-related busts.

More than 25 states are considering legislation that copies Oklahoma's
anti-meth efforts. A handful of state legislatures have passed such a law,
with more expected to follow suit.

The tracking system would prevent people from buying more pseudoephedrine
than the maximum amount allowed -- 9 grams -- a month, law officers said.
