U.S. LISTS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AS A MAJOR DRUG-TRAFFICKING
COUNTRY

SANTO DOMINGO.- Dominican Republic was included in the United States'
list of the world's twenty top drug production and trafficking countries.

Washington is mulling the application of sanctions against those
nations, though the U.S. State Department report which was filtered
to the newspaper the New York Times doesn't specify what type.

The list also includes Bolivia, Afghanistan, Bahamas, Brazil,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico,
Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela.

In July the Dominican antinarcotics agency (DNCD) said in 10 months
it had seized 6 tons of drugs, arrested more than 12,000 people in
8,000 operations, dismantled 16,000 drug sale points and fired dozens
of agents.
