POTHEADS SHOULD BE ASHAMED
Your editorial on marijuana was excellent. And I hope that, very soon,
those in authority will recognize the problems of this so-called harmless drug.
The police know cannabis is an addictive, psychoactive substance, and those
growing and selling it are low-lifes profiting by making users dependent.
Potheads who make the choice to consume it should be ashamed of their
support of the criminal underworld. Making dope legal will not necessarily
motivate organized crime to relinquish control of the industry.
But Province editors, please stop referring to marijuana as "pot."
This is a silly, whimsical term that reinforces the idea cannabis is an
organic, benign substance for friendly, laid-back users.
The fact is, the percentage of criminals and welfare deadbeats who use
marijuana is extremely high.
