ROSEMOUNT'S D.A.R.E. RECEIVES DONATION

The Rosemount Police Department's anti-drug program has received its
largest outside donation ever through the generosity - and appetite - of
Rosemount residents.

The City Council on Tuesday, May 3, accepted a donation of $1,841 from the
Rosemount Knights of Columbus Father Carey Council 5569. The organization
raised the money by serving a pancake breakfast March 13.

The money will help fund Rosemount Police operations in the D.A.R.E.
program. The program provides instruction for students at Rosemount
Elementary, St. Joseph School and Shannon Park Elementary. Most of the
money will pay for incentive supplies for graduation ceremonies this spring.

"If not for their generosity, we would have a greatly diminished D.A.R.E.
program that would not be nearly as successful," said Rosemount Police
Community Resource Officer Tim Murphy.

D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a 10-week
program for fifth-graders. About 250 students take part each year in
D.A.R.E. training conducted by Murphy. Additional funding is provided by
the city of Rosemount and the schools involved.
