OPERATION IMPACT HAS MADE VISIBLE DIFFERENCE
To the Editor:
Stop playing politics with public safety!
There is no question that Chauncey G. Parker (Sunday Post-Standard) is
absolutely right that Operation IMPACT is producing impressive
results. Putting aside Parker's impressive statistics, we can actually
"see" the difference. Street corners which used to be filled with
crack dealers selling their stuff have been noticeably empty.
The corners are now empty because the crack dealers are in jail and
any "wanna-be" dealers know that these locations are under close
surveillance.
Syracuse Police Chief Gary Miguel deserves credit for getting the city
of Syracuse into the program. We needed a police chief like that and
we need to keep that guy around for a long time. Anyone who opposes
the IMPACT program on "political grounds" is seriously endangering the
public safety.
