REEFER MADNESS

Inhibitions Distorted

I was very disappointed to read "Court OKs prosecution for medical use of
pot" [page one, June 7, and see "Ruling doesn't affect state's law on
medical use of pot," News, June 7]. It's a cruel decision. Why deprive sick
individuals of relief when they have found an herbal remedy that works?
They aren't "partying," they just want to feel like staying alive, have the
desire to eat, not throw up, decrease anxiety .. the basic quality-of-life
issues.

When other prescription drugs don't work, why should a successful
alternative be wrong?

I know that many sick individuals who need marijuana to counter the effects
of their diseases will still be able to obtain it through compassionate
family and friends, but my heart goes out to the sick individuals who are
isolated and won't have access to relief now that their doctors' hands have
been tied. I hope they can somehow find a way to reach out and ask for
help, now that our government has turned its back on their suffering.

What the Supreme Court decided was shameful.
