ARGUMENTS FOR LEGALIZING POT ALWAYS DEFY LOGIC
Re: Vancouver to press Ottawa to legalize and tax marijuana, June 8
I always find that the arguments of the legalization and harm
reduction crowd defy logic.
They will admit that the two most abused drugs, costing the most in
both the waste of human lives and of money, are the two most readily
available, and legal: alcohol and tobacco. The taxes raised from their
sales don't come close to repairing the damage they cause.
Then there are those who point to the failure of prohibition. Not
being a research scientist, I am willing to bet that a lot more people
have suffered as a consequence of the legalization of the sale of
alcohol and tobacco over the years than suffered during
Prohibition.
I am not arguing for a return to Prohibition. However, let's consider
the legalization of marijuana.
All of the same arguments that can be used to support Mayor Larry
Campbell's position can be used to support the sale of all other drugs.
What about crystal meth, ecstacy, acid, heroin and other street drugs?
Imagine how the property crime rate would go down if they were
legalized. This name of this report should be a takoff on that movie:
Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest.
