IN RESPONSE TO TWO LETTERS
To the editor:
This is in response to two letters published on Sunday.
In response to Mike Burns ("Minutemen did succeed," May 29): Like in
drug enforcement, when you focus on an area for a while, the
traffickers will move and continue to operate.
By the way, I hope and pray that the ACLU and other civil rights
organization will be around for many years to come.
Can you imagine, these organizations being around when the "gringos"
came and stole the Southwest? They would have made an effort in
stopping the murders and the stealing of our lands.
See if this fits: "The local people whipped themselves into a mold of
cruelty. Then they formed units, squads, and armed themselves with
clubs, with gas, and with guns. We own the country. We can't let these
Okies get out of hand." =AD John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath. Does
it fit?
The other response is to Anna Lancaster ("Christians unite against
Hinojosa," May 29). First and foremost, I have never had the privilege
of meeting Mr. Hinojosa, but I do know he served his country proudly
as a combative veteran. That in itself gives him the privilege of
believing in what he thinks is right.
Mrs. Lancaster cites the Bible to attack Mr. Hinojosa. There are lots
of quotations in the Bible that we, as decent and Christian people,
don't practice. And how about the race card? Racial profiling is alive
and well in the U.S. And yes, it is illegal for law enforcement to
initiate a traffic stop by utilizing a lame excuse as a tool to search
your vehicle.
Here we are in this great country, where just a couple of days ago, we
heard of some more cross burnings. Not this Christian.
