WAR ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA
Re "U.S. medical pot ban OK'd," June 7: The Bush administration has now
taken the gloves off in its war on medical marijuana patients. Recently,
Congress came to a grinding halt to pass a law to "save" the life of just
one person (Terri Schiavo) who had been in a persistent vegetative state
for 15 years. The Supreme Court has just ruled that unless Congress changes
the federal laws against marijuana, the feds can come in the homes of sick
and dying patients, guns drawn, and take their doctor-recommended medicine
away.
Nine years ago, hundreds of volunteers, including myself, gathered
signatures and put California's medical marijuana initiative (Proposition
215) on the ballot. The voters approved the initiative, and we changed
California's laws and made history. Nine other states have also voted in
medical marijuana decriminalization laws.
It's up to every citizen to convince Congress to end this madness now.
