LET PATIENTS LEGALLY GO TO POT

Ten states have permitted marijuana for medicinal purposes. President
George W. Bush, who opposed the use of prescribed marijuana, has won the
battle to keep marijuana from being used for medical reasons in all 50
states ["Courts: Feds can seize medicinal pot," News, June 7].

The federal government should reclassify marijuana from a Schedule 1 drug
to a Schedule 2 drug (potentially addictive but with some medical value).
If cocaine and morphine are classified as Schedule 2 drugs, marijuana -
which is less toxic - should not remain classified as a Schedule 1.

It is my hope that President Bush and others who do not want marijuana to
be used to alleviate nausea, AIDS, glaucoma and pain from multiple
sclerosis will change their negative view of marijuana and realize its
potential therapeutic value.
