DRUG WAR A WASTE

I really wish more columnists and opinion makers in the media spoke up
against the idiotic "war on drugs" the way Nolan Finley did ("End marijuana
hypocrisy to save nation billions," June 12). Like Finley, I realized long
ago that our government's fight against drugs is a colossal waste of money
and resources that, in light of more pressing problems, borders on being
criminal and immoral.

According to Finley, we spend $35 billion annually to fight illegal narcotics.

Imagine what $35 billion could do for our nation if it could be spent
efficiently for truly deserving causes.
