DESPERATE MEASURES NEEDED TO STRAIGHTEN OUT TEENS

THE EDITOR:

Re: 'Board wants to start squirting students,' Times, June 24.

This letter is in response to Cameron Wong's letter ['Drug-spray kit
would create false positives,' July 1].

Although he is entitled to his own views on issues "plaguing" our
teens today, his belief of their rights are slightly warped. It's a
lack of respect and absence of fear that have the majority of today's
youth severely misbehaving, carrying on with total freedom, never
fearing the consequence.

One shouldn't have a need for drug-spray kits but if it is necessary
to scare the students into following rules, let's not pass judgment.

Along with grades, the rights and respect need to be earned, not
owed. Most youth - not all - need to learn compassion, weight of
actions, and gratitude.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
