SAFE INJECTION SITES NOT A PRIORITY
The Vancouver Island Health Authority and Mayor Alan Lowe have a
well-designed public information/propaganda campaign to promote
public storefront needle injection sites. How did this become a
Victoria priority? It is low on my priority list.
Whatever happened to the pillar of law enforcement? I was a youth
worker in Vancouver in the 1970s and it is heartbreaking to see the
deterioration that was allowed to happen there. Since childhood
obesity and adult onset diabetes are rising to epidemic levels why
isn't this a priority with full funding for intensive programs for
at-risk children and their families to learn and practise healthy
eating and living. Current programs are bare bones. A local public
information campaign would not include trips to Europe.
I challenge Mayor Lowe and council to put the concept of public
needle injection sites to a referendum in November's civic election.
