FOUR PILLARS COALITION SEEKS FUNDING FROM CORD BOARD
The Central Okanagan Four Pillars Coalition is looking for a
commitment from the Central Okanagan Regional District without
funding from Health Canada.
One of the key recommendations from the Four Pillars study completed
last year was to create a drug policy coordinator for the regional district.
But an application for funding for that position from Health Canada
has been delayed.
Brian Mairs, secretary, says he wants to see the regional district
create a bylaw and get moving in advance of funding.
We understand that the proposal to fund the Drug Policy Coordinator
position sent to Health Canada has been delayed in Ottawa, putting
the entire project behind our original schedule," Mairs wrote on
behalf of the Four Pillars Coalition. It's expected to take several
weeks for a bylaw to pass and the coalition wants no further delays.
(We) look forward to having regional district in control of the
process as soon as the coast analysis is complete, so the process can
move forward with greater legitimacy than is possible from a
coalition of concerned citizens."
