PROTEST MARIJUANA REVIVAL
I am angry. Last Friday and Saturday's papers' front pages (Globe,
Sept. 21, 22) had articles about a cannabis revival to be held in
Landreth Park. I couldn't believe that our city would allow something
like this to take place, especially when we are making such an effort
to make Joplin a place where people would like to come to raise their
families.
I drove by Landreth Park and found that not only was the revival being
held, but that it was being held right across the street from our
Little League ball park. They had pictures of marijuana leaves
attached to the trees so it could not be mistaken what they were doing
there.
What an example to be put before our young people! Are we saying that
it is OK to have small amounts of this drug on their person, and it is
OK to use it in small amounts? Ask any drug addict how they got
started in drugs. They will tell you that they started by smoking a
joint of pot. Do we want to keep this cycle going, or should we nip it
in the bud by not allowing such meetings as this to be held in our
city?
I, for one, want to protect my grandchildren from this danger. We, the
city of Joplin and The Joplin Globe, should hang our heads in shame
for allowing this to take place within our city. Wake up, citizens,
and see the danger. Let's not let this happen without letting our
voices be heard in protest.
