L-P HOSTS MEETING ABOUT SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Leaders of LaSalle-Peru Township High School and members of the Illinois
Valley Coalition Against Substance Abuse (IV-CASA) are organizing a
community meeting to generate ideas and suggestions for combating substance
abuse by young people. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9
in Room 201 at L-P.

"This meeting is a call to action to area residents who want to help
curtail substance abuse issues in the Illinois Valley. We want to
brainstorm and come up with concrete suggestions for helping our law
enforcement agencies deal with the substance abuse problem," said Tracie
Mazzorana, IV-CASA chairperson. "The demand for drugs raises the crime
rate and we want to help bring the crime rate down."

Representatives from service organizations and local businesses are
especially invited to the meeting to add their support to the anti-drug
effort said Mazzorana. Mazzorana said the meeting would include the
presentation of a 15 minute video about substance abuse.
