THEY JAILED NORIEGA; IS MARTIN NEXT?

For allowing Emery to sell marijuana seeds, is our federal government
guilty of conspiracy?

Re: "Seed seller was aware of the risks," Editorial, Aug. 6.

Your editorial hit on an interesting point when it said that Marc Emery's
marijuana seed selling was an "open secret in the region for years."

The Canadian government knew of Emery's sale of marijuana seeds (a Schedule
1 drug in the U.S.) and collected taxes on his business. Under U.S. law,
that makes the Canadian government co-conspirators with Emery in the sale
of said marijuana seeds to the U.S.

Why hasn't Prime Minister Paul Martin or his government been indicted along
with Marc Emery?

Panamanian leader Manual Noriega taxed (collected monies) from cocaine (a
Schedule 2 drug) flowing through his country to the U.S. He was scooped up
by the U.S. troops in 1989 and brought to the U.S. where he was tried,
convicted and imprisoned for money laundering and drug trafficking.

If Ottawa fails to give up Emery to America's drug war "beast," Canadians
may find their government officials and Emery scooped up by the Drug
Enforcement Agency and brought to the U.S. for trial.
