SERVING UP EMERY ON SILVER PLATTER TO U.S. DRUG 'WAR'
To the editor:
Why would Canada serve up Marc Emery et al to appease the U.S. drug gods? I
was under the impression that the days of human sacrifice were long past.
Alas, it would appear that they are still with us, hidden in plain view.
If we, as a nation, choose to start enforcing a technicality that has not
been enforced in more than 35 years, that is our business. But simply
sending three human beings to a foreign land for violating that
technicality, to be political prisoners, violates even the most rational of
moral standards.
By that standard, anyone selling a book on democracy to a Chinese citizen,
from Canadian soil, should face extradition to China for breaking their laws.
Martin Luther King Jr. said that, "One has a moral responsibility to
disobey unjust laws."
The fact that the USA has morally responsible people living in all 50
states buying seeds from Mr. Emery is evidence to the unjust laws that make
up the U.S.-led drug war, (or as the current administration has recently
stated, the War against Marijuana).
It is not evidence that Marc Emery et al. are guilty as charged.
