IMPACT OF DRUGS

After reading Don Fredrick's Wednesday letter to the editor, I think either
his sarcasm is way over my head or he simply does not realize the impact
that drugs have on society.

I have worked in the court system for many years, and I see that most
crimes are drug-related. You have your burglars who steal from your home to
feed their habit; robbers who hold up convenience stores to get money for
their drugs; and people murdered in drug deals gone bad or murdered simply
because one person has something (money, drugs, drug business) that the
other one wants.

Legalizing drugs and taxing them would not be the answer. The users still
would need money to make their purchases.

And that other heinous crime, prostitution? I would be willing to bet that
at least 90 percent of the prostitutes used their money earned to buy drugs.
