ATTORNEY GENERAL'S WAR ON METH INCLUDES SHOWING ID & SIGNING FOR
PSEUDOEPHEDRINE

The timing was perfect as the steel tracks of a Bradley fighting machine
broke the silence of preparations for Illinois Attorney General Lisa
Madigan's press conference.

It seemed like a fitting visual aid to drive home Madigan's commitment to
the "war" on methamphetamine at the opening of the Du Quoin State Fair. The
Bradley had actually pulled up as part of a National Guard display nearby.

The press conference had a simple message: Illinois will stop being the
"meth shopping mall of the Midwest."

Madigan was joined by Perry County Sheriff Keith Kellerman, Franklin County
Sheriff Bill Wilson and a dozen other law enforcement personnel as she
announced legislation she plans to introduce this fall that would require
anyone purchasing previously over-the-counter decongestants to show an ID
and sign for the substances.

Madigan said she will proposed that Illinois adopt a law similar to the one
that took effect in Iowa on May 21, 2005 that has led to a 75 percent drop
in the number of meth labs reported in that state.
