LOVE OF AYN RAND PHILOSOPHY A GIVEAWAY FOR MARTYR MARC'S RATIONAL SELF-INTEREST

To the editor:

Why does the entrepreneurial, Ayn Rand-loving Marc Emery still get tagged
as a "martyr" by the media ("Marijuana's martyr," Aug. 14)?

Ayn Rand was a proponent of "rational self-interest" which, according to a
website which celebrates her life's work and philosophy, "stands in sharp
opposition to the ethics of altruism and self-sacrifice." Or you can try
wading through her leaden prose to come to the same conclusion.

Maybe after three or four bong hits the connection makes sense. But I doubt it.
