SCHOOL BOARD CONSIDERS DRUG TESTING FOR TEACHERS AND STAFF

Teachers, school custodians and food service workers may be tested for drugs
and alcohol beginning Oct. 1.

"Currently, we only test our transportation employees. We are looking to
test all employees," said Larry Reznicek, director of human resources for
the school district.

He outlined a proposal Tuesday for Campbell County School District trustees
that would expand the district's drug and alcohol testing to encompass
non-safety sensitive positions.

School Trustee Susan Shippy, who has been working on the proposal with
Reznicek, believes that stricter regulations are needed even though drug use
among school district employees has not been a problem.

Under the proposal, there would be pre-employment testing for all school
district applicants. There also would be post accident and "reasonable
suspicion" testing for all employees.

The proposal will be discussed again at the school board's meeting Sept. 13.
