COUNTING CRACK PIPES
Editor - Most mornings, I walk down Hyde Street from Post Street to
the YMCA on Golden Gate Ave. for a workout. The filth, crazies and
drug dealing are incredible. Sometimes I play a little game: "count
the crack pipes." The other day, it was 12. In just six blocks, I saw
12 people in doorways or in the gutter hitting their pipes, not to
mention the assorted junkies shooting up or urinating on the street.
Excuse me, but last time I checked, was this not illegal? Gavin
Newsom got elected mayor by promising to do something about the
homeless and to clean up the streets. This has not happened. If
anything, the streets are filthier and more dangerous than ever. In
this bastion of the super rich, why must we live like a Third World country?
