SOME NERVE

To the editor:

It is astonishing and sad that Boulder City officials believe it is
appropriate to take a woman's home because she pleaded no contest to
possession of six marijuana plants ("Misdemeanor charge: Pot may cost
homeowner," Sept. 15).

City Attorney Dave Olsen claims he is trying to seize Cynthia Warren's home
to protect the lives of children. But Ms. Warren was not convicted of
distributing marijuana to anyone of any age -- and no one, adult or child,
has ever died from a marijuana overdose.

It takes some nerve for Mr. Olsen, who pleaded no contest to drunken
driving last year, to claim that he's protecting children from a woman who
grew some plants for herself.

In November 2006, Nevadans will have the opportunity to end such outrages
by passing the marijuana initiative, which would take marijuana off the
streets and put it under a common-sense system of taxation and regulation.

The measure would double the maximum fine and prison sentence for adults
who sell or give marijuana to children or who kill anyone while driving
under the influence of alcohol or any drug.
