MAN ARRESTED, RELEASED AFTER SEARCH OF HOME

A man whom Milwaukee officials have labeled a major slumlord was
arrested Monday on an accusation that he had drugs in his lakefront
home, but he was later released for insufficient evidence.

The Whitefish Bay home of Timothy J. Brophy Jr. was searched Friday by
police and federal drug agents after they received a tip that there
were drugs there, said police Capt. Gregory Habeck.

Arrest record shows that officers found 5.41 grams of marijuana, but
an official at the Milwaukee County Jail said that Brophy, 35, was
being released Tuesday night because there was insufficient evidence
to charge him.

In May, Brophy was arrested near his Whitefish Bay home at N. Lake and
E. Silver Spring drives on 26 open warrants for non-payment on
building code citations. He was released after paying about $54,000 in
fines but was arrested in August on warrants after he fell $69,000 in
arrears over numerous outstanding building code citations.

He was charged with obstructing an officer, criminal trespass and
disorderly conduct and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
