REACTION TO KATE MOSS DRUG SCANDAL IS HYPOCRITICAL

Good rule of thumb: If you don't want models to use cocaine, don't pay
them to weigh 90 pounds.

As the rest of us spent the last 30 years getting fatter and fatter -
to the point where all we knew how to do was dip McNuggets in honey
and watch "Desperate Housewives" - the models got skinnier.

Somewhere along the way, curvaceous and buxom gave way to gaunt and
emaciated.

And despite the fact that it's simply not att ractive to have your
collarbone look like Saran Wrap draped over blackboard chalk, the
trend persisted.

And the epitome of that trend was British supermodel Kate Moss, who
publicly apologized, cried and left England after photos of her using
cocaine surfaced recently. She's reportedly in rehab in Arizona.

She wasn't just anorexic, she was like a bionic anorexic. She was so
skinny, Ethiopians were coming up to her with food and saying, "Here,
lady, you eat this."

You get the point. And although feminists and men who like women with
arms that don't look like angel hair pasta derided her, the industry
praised her and rewarded her with goddess status.

The message went out as to what was in: Skinny. And if you do lots of
cocaine, ladies and gentlemen, you will get and stay skinny.

You'll also chat incessantly to strangers, grind the enamel off your
teeth, and drape towels over the windows to block the sunlight while
you're still awake at 10 a.m. thinking the cat on the stoop is an FBI
agent.

But that's not the point.

The point is, no kidding Kate Moss was doing coke. And my reaction to
this revelation is the same as when I found out baseball players were
using steroids or priests were touching kids or that lawmakers are
being accused of having shady finances: Gee, you think?

And the law-and-order people try to blur the lines and lump it all
together, making drug use a morality issue equal to election fraud and
pedophilia.

But drugs aren't about morals, they're about preference, and I have to
give Kate live-and-let-live status on this one because after all,
everyone has their poison.

You eat your poison and get fat, she sniffs hers to get
skinny.

You're either drinking coffee just to get out of bed in the morning or
crawling into a bottle at night or blowing money you don't have on
Texas hold 'em or leaning on some crutch that makes the days go by.

So why the shock that models are doing the nose candy?

It makes perfect sense, if you think about it. Coke is a stripper's
drug - and models are just an aristocratic caste of strippers.

Your husband buys the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue because it's a
literary lap dance.

That's his poison.

Kate's too skinny and does drugs. So what? If she has something to
apologize for, I promise you, so do you.
