MARIJUANA BILLBOARDS GET READERS TALKING
Editor's note: A recent Daily Herald story and editorial about local
attorney Gene Linehan's billboards in Weston generated considerable
discussion. The signs featured a marijuana leaf and offer to defend those
accused of crimes; a sign company took them down after Weston officials and
residents complained that they were offensive and promoted drug use.
The following letters are responses to the controversy: (3 of 5)
This is political correctness run amok.
This lawyer has a right to advertise his specialty, defending people
accused of violating the ridiculous marijuana laws. His ads are indeed
protected speech. As Linehan says, ignorance is hard to fight.
These billboards are much better than the ones put up by the ignorant,
condemning homosexuality.
