DRUG TESTS SET FOR STUDENTS

Parents and students can sign up for a voluntary drug-testing program being
considered by the Carmel Unified School District for its students in middle
and high schools.

The testing would be part of a comprehensive drug-abuse prevention program
that includes education, counseling, disciplinary intervention and parental
involvement.

The testing program would cost from $6,000 to $8,000 for one school year and
would begin next fall. The district is looking at picking up the entire cost
for about 1,200 students in three schools.
