CRIME STOPPERS AT VANIER
In an effort to enhance the safety of students and reduce victimization in
Comox Valley schools, Crime Stoppers has worked in partnership with the
staff at G.P. Vanier School to introduce the "Comox Valley Student Crime
Stoppers" program to their students.
"The students in the Comox Valley benefit from these types of
organizations," principal Dr. Lori Carpenter states. "By strengthening the
resources and tools available to Crime Stoppers programs, we raise public
awareness, reduce crime and increase safety."
Inspector Tom Gray says, "The Comox Valley Crime Stoppers program has been
an overwhelming success since its inception in 1992. Since that time over
$19,000,000 worth of drugs have been recovered in the Comox Valley as a
result of the Crime Stoppers program."
This program will be funded by Comox Valley Crime Stoppers and other
community groups, as funding will be sought for the upcoming year to support
continued education of the Crime Stoppers concept. Ongoing liaison will
occur with the Comox Valley Crime Stoppers board, RCMP Youth Liaison Unit,
as well as School District #71 staff.
