ADDICTS MADE CHOICE TO USE ILLEGAL DRUGS
I share Stephen Harper's skepticism that providing needles and drugs
as a so-called "harm reduction" strategy is appropriate or
worthwhile. We only have to look at the streets of Vancouver, where a
laissez-faire approach to public illicit-drug use has been in effect
for so long.
Addiction to illicit drugs is a health issue that stems from a
personal choice. I personally resent my tax dollars going to treat
someone else's bad choices, whether it is from illegal drugs or legal
drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, that in most cases starts from
recreational, pleasure-seeking reasons.
If I cause an accident with my car, my insurance goes up and I pay
more. So should those who knowingly put their own health at risk by
using illegal drugs or abusing legal drugs in the name of recreation
and pleasure.
