BOXING LEGEND BRINGS MESSAGE TO ROCKY

Canadian boxing legend George Chuvalo will be coming to Rocky Mountain
House later this month to take on an opponent tougher than anyone he
has ever faced in the ring. He is coming to speak about his career and
the struggle his family has had with drugs and suicide.

He will be in Rocky on Tuesday, November 15, speaking at schools
through the day, and then to an open public session that evening. On
November 16, he will be traveling to the Sunchild and O'Chiese First
Nations.

Chuvalo won the professional Canadian heavyweight boxing championship
in 1958 and he dominated the sport in this country for more than a
decade. He lost a narrow decision to world champion Ernie Terrill in
1965, and was the first challenger to last 15 rounds with Muhammad
Ali. He retired in 1979 with a record of 74 wins (65 by knockouts), 18
losses and two draws. In his entire career, he was never knocked down.

Chuvalo speaks to students and adults about substance abuse. He lost
three sons to drugs and a distraught wife to suicide. He focuses on
the lifestyle choices kids make.

The public session hosted by the RCMP Victim Services Unit is on
Tuesday, November 15, is from 7-9 p.m. at the Lou Soppit Community
Centre and is free of charge.
