ALBERTA RESTRICTS ACCESS TO COLD REMEDIES

Edmonton -- The Alberta government has become the third on the Prairies to
restrict access to cold and cough remedies used to make crystal
methamphetamine. The street drug is highly addictive and can be made easily
using a combination of fertilizers, over-the-counter cold medications and
products that contain ephedrine sold in health-food stores.

This year, Manitoba and Saskatchewan limited access to cold remedies by
dictating that they must be sold in pharmacies and stored behind the
counter. British Columbia and Ontario are considering similar restrictions.
