ONE SHOT DURING COVERT VANCOUVER POLICE OPERATION

A man was shot by undercover police officers Tuesday night in
Vancouver during a drug-related covert operation.

Vancouver police Const. Howard Chow said the man was with an
undisclosed number of officers in an underground parking lot at 939
Homer Street when they tried to arrest them.

"The suspect pulled out a gun and was commanded numerous times to drop
the gun," said Chow.

Failing to heed the commands, officers fired several shots at the man
and he was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said their operation continued after the shooting and a number
of people were arrested that night.

Chow said this incident just further demonstrates how many guns are on
the streets of Vancouver these days.

"On a daily basis we see individuals that have them," said Chow. Chow
said the specifics of the undercover operation won't be disclosed, but
more information may be available at a later date.
